article A year ago, the average Australian home owner paid more than $1,400 for a home appliance.
Now, with the advent of new products, a home owner is likely to pay just $200 for a single appliance.
But a year ago the average appliance cost $2,500.
That is the difference a year makes.
“The big changes have been the prices of the appliances,” says Andrew D’Ambrosio, head of appliances research at research firm Canalys.
“If we had a year when you bought a new house, you would have seen the average price rise by $400.”
The biggest changes have come from the cost of the components, including the sockets and connectors, according to the Canalys survey.
“What we’re seeing now is that most of the new products have increased the prices by about $500 a year,” says Mr D’Amrosio.
“That’s really big.”
